Take a stand against blood cancer with local professional martial artist Master Bruce Cairney

Townsville local professional martial artist Bruce Cairney has taken a stand against blood cancer, pledging to shave off and donate his long hair in a fundraising effort to support families affected by leukemia.

With children and teens who develop any type of cancer having a 30% chance of developing some form of leukemia, he feels strongly about helping in any way possible.

The idea for the fundraising initiative began back in 2015 during a weekly instructor meeting at the Choi Kwang Do Master Academy @martial arts on Riverway where he announced the intention to grow his hair long and offer to shave it off for charity.

There have been a few unexpected disruptions since the announced fundraising plan. Overcoming a major haircut mishap that ended up being practically short back and sides had him start growing his hair all over again, Covid (say no more), relocating & upgrading the Choi Kwang Do Master Academy

Fast forward to 2023, and after seven long years now the date is set. December 16th  2023, at 11am

The goal is to raise $3000, that's $100 for every year  since the introduction official opening of Choi Kwang Do in Townsville ($1000 for each year would be better though)

The reason Master Bruce chose to support the Leukemia Foundation stems from a personal connection to the disease. One of the long-term instructors at the Master Academy, Mr. John Hannon and his wife Sigrid, lost their daughter Fiona to leukemia.

The aim is to raise vital funds to help provide special care for families affected by blood cancer and fund game-changing research into the disease.

Donations to the fundraising campaign will help provide care for those in need right now and support researchers in uncovering faster diagnoses and better treatments to save lives.

Help us to achieve the best outcome we can. We are calling out for support for this worthy cause.

Leukemia makes up 30% of cancers affecting children and young adults!
