Rollercoaster Run

Mission Accomplished!

Hey All!

Last one from me. What a couple of days. Firstly, thank you so much for helping me hit the fundraiser goal, I thought it was super lofty but we got there and I'm incredibly appreciative of it.

Secondly, the run start was delayed by an hour as a result of  Melbourne turning on the taps over the last few days. As you could imagine the trails were saturated and I felt like I was mudskating for much of it. By some miracle I didn't slip over once! We started in rain and I finished in glorious sunshine 5 hours and 27 minutes later which is WELL ahead all my unspoken goals, I figured I would push it and worst case, if I go too hard I'll just walk it in. That didnt happen and I came in hard to the end. I crossed the line in what the annoucer said was "a respectable time". (Maybe they were just trying to be polite but I'll take it anyway).

Thanks to everyone who I ran and crossed paths with in the build up to this event. Your donations, motivation, positive words and tips & tricks helped me achieve all this.

I'm going to take a bit of well earned time to recover and then assess what challenges I would like to tackle next.

One Week To Go!

Hey All,

As I post this, in exactly one week I'll be 4 hours into the run! Again, thanks all for your generosity and support. It's been quite a struggle sticking to a semblence of a plan being back and forth between Tassie and Melbourne with a lot of big life events happening, but I've made it through with some consistency and it's continued to be nice to have this event and cause as goal to continue working towards.

I've done my last long run up Mt. Wellington/kunanyi and some other places (30km/1500m Vert) without injurying myself and pulled up pretty well. I'm now in taper and self-preservation mode until the big day (NO MORE TRAILS). Not much more I can do beside prepare myself mentally and have all my ducks in a row gear, logistics and contingency wise.

Hoping it's not a warm day because the climate in Tassie hasn't been too conducive to training for that. Feeling quietly confident. It's going to be a fun and interesting day.

Thanks again for taking the time out of your day!

One Month Out

Hey All,

Today marks one month to the run. Thank you all for your generosity and support on all fronts. The initial goal was just to occupy some of your brain space for a brief moment about the cause and anything else was a bonus. Whether it be the kind messages motivating me, telling me I've inspired you to do something you've been on the fence about and, of course, the donations. It's greatly appreciated and honestly overwhelming compared to what I had envisioned. I feel like something positive has already been accomplished and we haven't even got to the main event yet!

Training is coming along, decently. It's been a tough period for me personally so having this goal has been a nice outlet and escape throughout. I knew tackling this challenge wasn't going to be easy so it's been factored in.

I'm entering the home strech and it's making me nervous. I'm someone who likes to (try) to prepare for every eventuality. Being my first ultra and not having done anything on this scale before (training runs get up there but not quite) I don't think I could ever truely feel ready no matter what. It's just one of those things where I have to trust the process and enjoy (suffer through) whatever the big day may bring! 🤞

Thanks again for letting me take up some of your brain space for a moment :)

I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.

I know this is nothing compared to the crazy feats that others are doing, but every challenge is relative to the person undertaking it and this is certainly new territory to me, skipping the marathon straight to an Ultra. I'll be participating in the 46km Rollercoaster Run this October!

Participating in such a challenging and selfish pursuit is entirely my decision, so I thought whilst I'm willingly bashing up and down hills, I would try to spread some awareness and do something positive to assist those less fortunate. Those who didn't sign up for the pain and challenge that they and those around them have to endure.

I've selected Leukaemia Foundation as the charity provides support for individuals and their families suffering from many forms of blood cancer including that which a loved one of mine has.

Who doesn't want to see a silly bugger suffer all day?
