‘Chafing for Charity’
Today, more than 50 Australians will be told that they have blood cancer and tomorrow - another 50 families will be devastated by the same news. In 2015 and 2016, our fathers were one of those 50 – they were both diagnosed with the same horrible blood cancer; Multiple Myeloma – a cancer of the plasma cells. After a long brave battle, Rikki’s father Gregory (Macka) sadly passed away in March 2021. Jamie’s father Alan continues to fight this disease every day and is still undergoing treatment.
In honour of our brave dads, we have decided to enter Storm’s ‘Thunder Games Pairs 22’ to raise awareness and vital funds to help provide the special care that is needed to get families through a blood cancer diagnosis as well as to help fund more game-changing research into this disease. Our awesome coach Sharelle from Storm Strength and Conditioning will be donating $5 to the Leukemia foundation from every nomination she receives. There will be a donations tin at the gym over the next few weeks and also on comp day if you would like to contribute towards our fundraising goal of $5000.
The Leukemia foundation has been a constant support to our families over the last 7 years, providing accommodation, transport when needed and sometimes just a shoulder to cry on. The money we raise will help provide care for those in need right now — and it will back the brightest researchers to continue uncovering faster diagnoses and better treatments to save lives.
