I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.
David’s Dash:
I’ve never been one to post on social media, however, this cause is incredibly important to my family and I.
In January 2022, my father, David, was diagnosed with leukaemia. It was incredibly difficult news to process - the person who had been my role model for as long as I could remember was now preparing to battle a disease with the odds significantly stacked against him. Despite this, David assured our family that he would fight this with everything he had.
The following two years were a roller coaster of emotions. One week, we were told he might not have long to live; the next, we heard there was hope for remission. Despite the aggressive nature of the disease, David never stopped smiling or fighting. Even in hospital, he continued to teach and inspire, showing us how to find joy in the hardest of moments.
Sadly, after multiple battles and moments of remission, David passed away in February of 2024. His absence is felt every day. He was more than just a parent; he was my best friend, my mentor, and my hero.
To honour his memory and to help others fighting this terrible disease, I’m raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. The funds will:
- Provide care and support for patients and families right now.
- Back researchers working on faster diagnoses and better treatments.
As part of this challenge—and to keep myself accountable—I’m running my first official marathon at the Perth Running Festival in October. My goal is run this marathon in 3:30 mins with every minute beating this time I will donate $150 to the leukaemia foundation. David loved running, and I couldn’t think of a better way to honour him.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, can make a real difference for those battling leukaemia.
I’ll be sharing my marathon training and progress on strava: https://strava.app.link/BXetxo4ZvUb
Thank you for your support and kindness.
