I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.
It has always been a goal of mine to donate my hair to make wigs for kids with cancer but more recently, i lost my dear friend Em to Leukemia after battling with the disease for most of her life. I have since decided to not only donate my hair but to also shave it when my goal is reached in support of Em and those who are currently battling with this cancer.
Em Copping, a wife to Sam, a mother to Max and a friend to all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. Now i didn't know Em for very long, less than 4 years to be exact but what i do know is that anyone who was lucky enough to have her in their lives was truly blessed. This includes a lot of my closest friends including my husband who cherished the friendship he had with Em.
Em was first diagnosed with Leukaemia at the age of 10 and relapsed twice in the following 4 years. She had undergone 3 bone marrow transplants along with numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She went on to live a fulfilling life and even met her future husband Sam whilst teenagers. Some years went by and they found themselves living in Broken Hill where Em worked as a nurse in the dialysis unit. A few more years went by and after a move back to Adelaide, Em got her dream of marrying the love of her life, Sam. Their biggest dream was to start a family together and this came true in April 2019 when their beautiful baby boy Max was born. Em and Sam were preparing to move yet again this time from Strathalbyn to manage a farm down south when they received the devastating news that Em had been diagnosed for the 4th time with a rare blood cancer. This time, the doctors were dealing with the unknown but Em fought hard with everything she had until she had no more left to give. We received the news that she had lost her battle on March 30th 2020. She has left the biggest hole in everyone's hearts and her kindness and most loving nature will never be forgotten.
I am fundraising to help individuals like Em, like the 47 Australians who will know that they have blood cancer by the end of today — and for the 47 families who will face the same devastating news tomorrow.
I have created this page to raise vital funds to help provide the special care that is needed to get families through a blood cancer diagnosis as well as to help fund more game-changing research into this disease.
The money I raise will help provide care for those in need right now — and it will back the brightest researchers to continue uncovering faster diagnoses and better treatments to save lives.
