I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.
Rhys Slater was a member of our Hillbrook Early Learning community in the early 1990's. He loved fire trucks and the colour yellow. While Rhys and his family fought his battle with leukaemia the impact was felt by Hillbrook staff, families and children but sadly, his fight ended in 1994, aged only 5 years old.
Afterwards, Yellow Day was born when Rhys' mum planted a yellow flowering wattle tree in the early learning centre playground. The tree is still there and little yellow flowers blossom every Yellow Day. The children, staff and students decorate the tree and the playground in yellow and wear yellow clothes as well as donate money to the Leukaemia Foundation.
So, help us remember Rhys and make a difference by donating to the Leukaemia Foundation to help the 50 Australians who will be told that they have blood cancer today. And tomorrow - another 50 families will be devastated by the same news.
