I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.
Today, more than 53 Australians will be told that they have blood cancer and tomorrow, another 53 families will be devastated by the same news.
In November 2021, my mum was diagnosed with Sezary Syndrome, a very rare & aggressive form of blood cancer. In September 2022, she underwent a bone marrow transplant, an option that wasn't available until a few years ago. Unless in the case of a transplant, the life expectancy of this disease is less than 5 years.
My mum fought incredibly hard and sadly passed away in January. When she did, the doctors said to me that there is still a lot they don't know about this disease but that they are learning every day.
Because of this I have chosen to run in the Hills to Henley Half Marathon on July 23rd to help raise money for the continuation of research against this awful disease.
The Leukaemia Foundation were an unbelievable support to my family during this time. They provided my parents with free accommodation in Melbourne for as long as they needed while my mum had her treatment and have provided grief counselling and support since her passing. I cannot thank them enough.
