I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.

Picton Junior Rugby League Football Club’s first home game for the 2026 season will be our Leukaemia Awareness Round.

📅 Date to be confirmed anticipated to be 11th or 18th April 2026

Why Leukaemia Awareness Round?

In March 2024, Tyler was in his third year playing footy with the Picton Magpies under 8’s team.  One day he suddenly began limping during a game. It first appeared to be a minor injury but over the following weeks, the pain worsened until Tyler couldn’t walk.

After multiple doctor visits during this time and abnormal blood results, Tyler was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection. While this initially gave his family hope and a treatment plan, his condition didn’t improve. Further tests were ordered and on 26 June 2024, Tyler’s family received the devastating diagnosis: Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Tyler immediately began a gruelling two-year treatment plan involving surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, lumbar punctures and countless medical procedures. He spent more than 100 nights in hospital, missed school and special milestones and was confined to a wheelchair for five months. Despite everything, Tyler’s strength, determination enabled him to walk again and his constant smile never wavered.

Today, Tyler is in the maintenance phase of treatment and doing incredibly well. His central line has been removed, he’s back at school full-time, enjoying swimming, bike rides and family adventures, and cheering on his brothers from the sidelines. While he can’t return to footy just yet, he’s already dreaming of rejoining his teammates in 2027. In the meantime, he gets his footy kicks watching his brothers Carter and Jake play and his favourite teams on TV.

Tyler’s journey highlights why ongoing research and care for kids with cancer is so vital. Thanks to modern medicine and the support of fundraising initiatives like this one, Tyler has a positive prognosis and a bright future ahead.

Tylers family are so proud of his determination during this time. He has never given up and has continued to smile, care for others and strive to do his best.  He is an inspiration to us all.

By supporting this fundraiser, you’re helping kids like Tyler get the care they need and the chance to grow up doing what they love.

We cant wait to see Tyler back on the field with his mates in 2027.

While Tyler can’t be on the field this year, the Picton JRLFC and the local community are all so incredibly proud of his strength, resilience and determination. You always have a 2nd family with this Magpie army Tyler.

We cant' wait to see Tyler back on the field with his mates in 2027 scoring tries and smiling that big smile. We encourage everyone attending on the day to wear something orange. Victoria Park is usually a sea of black and white, lets turn it orange, for one special day.
