I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.

I am organising this fundraiser because leukeamia has personally changed my family forever.

I lost my brother to leukaemia, and it is something that still affects my family deeply. It is hard to explain what that kind of loss does to people unless you have lived through it. You do not just lose someone once — you feel it in birthdays, family moments, milestones, conversations, and all the things they should have still been here for.

For my family, leukaemia was not just an illness we heard about. It became part of our lives, and then it became the reason someone we loved was no longer with us.

This event is my way of trying to turn something painful into something positive. Through Domino’s Swansea, I have a connection to the local community and an opportunity to bring people together. I want to use that in a meaningful way.

My hope for “Pizza for a Purpose” is that it becomes more than just a fundraiser. I want it to be a day where local families can come together, enjoy themselves, support an important cause, and help raise awareness for something that has had such a heavy impact on my own family.

I do not want leukaemia to feel like a death sentence for families the way it felt for mine. I know there is still so much work being done in treatment, care, research and support, and I would be honoured to contribute to that in any way I can.

This fundraiser is for my brother, for my family, and for every family who has had to sit beside someone they love and hope for more time.

That’s officially a wrap on our first Pizza for a Purpose.
On Saturday, we took over Quinn Park in Swansea for a small community fundraiser in memory of my brother,  Josh, raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation to try and put an end to this awful illness. 

We served pizza for donations, ran a community raffle, had live music from Jimmy Buchanan, face painting, a jumping castle and kids activities, and spent the afternoon with everyone who came down to support the cause.

Everything has now been counted and reconciled, and together we raised $3,682 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

For something that started as a simple idea, it took a lot of people to actually make the day happen, so there are a few thank you's that need to be said.

Creative Concepts by KB were a huge help in bringing Pizza for a Purpose to life, particularly with the creation of our merchandise and their generous support of the event beyond this - It would not have been possible. Thank you for getting behind the idea and helping us turn it into something real.

Mythical Ink supported the event and made some amazing artwork on our little troopers and supporters! They have posted some of the artwork on their page - check them out! Thank you for backing the event and what we were trying to achieve.

The Yum Bar Belmont got behind our raffle with a voucher and helped us put together a prize pool that people genuinely wanted to get involved with.

Benefit Pest Management were incredibly generous, donating multiple termite inspection vouchers to our raffle. Their contribution made up a huge part of our prize pool and helped us raise plenty through raffle ticket sales.

Murrays Beach Candle Co. helped us with tables and a gazebo for the day. When you're trying to turn an empty park into an event site for a few hours, having people willing to lend you the equipment you need makes a massive difference.

Create with Chloe donated a voucher to our raffle and gave us another great local prize to put up on the day. Please check out her Instagram to see her work and some timelapses to watch the magic happen! I could not find a Facebook page to tag - so please search up on Instagram!!!

Michael from Micks Kustom Rods donated a handmade 12ft Blackfish rod. It was an incredibly generous contribution and definitely one of the prizes that attracted the most attention. We have been in talks for months about this particular donation and he deserves some love!

Jimmy Buchanan gave up his Saturday to provide the live music throughout the afternoon. Having Jimmy playing in the park added so much to the atmosphere of the day, and shows everybody how talented he really is.

Bunnings Warehouse particularly Bennetts Green supported the raffle with a $50 voucher, adding another great prize to the draw.

Kids Amusements worked with us on very generous pricing for the supervised jumping castle. It was easily one of the biggest hits with the kids, and we're grateful they helped us make it possible.

Swansea Public School helped us out with tables for the event, which made setting everything up locally a whole lot easier.
Swansea High School and St Patrick's Primary School both helped us spread the word in the lead-up to the event and get Pizza for a Purpose in front of more local families.

And to the families of our Domino's Swansea team who lent us equipment along the way - thank you. A surprising amount of this event came together because somebody was willing to say, “Yep, I've got one you can borrow.”

To our volunteers, Domino's Swansea team, family and friends - thank you for actually making the day work. Setting up, serving pizza, selling raffle tickets and merchandise, running activities, moving equipment, helping people and eventually packing the whole thing back down again. There were definitely a few chaotic moments, particularly at the start , but we got there.

Thank you as well to the Leukaemia Foundation for allowing us to fundraise on their behalf and for supporting us throughout the process.

And finally, thank you to everyone who came down.

We never set out to put on a massive festival. This was our first attempt at something like this - a small community fundraiser put together by local people. Seeing people come through Quinn Park, grab some pizza, buy raffle tickets, donate and spend part of their Saturday with us meant a lot.

We did this because we wanted to take something incredibly difficult - losing Josh to leukaemia at just 26 - and turn it into something that could help another person or family going through blood cancer.

For our first Pizza for a Purpose, we're pretty proud of that.
