I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.
Help Me Make a Difference in the Fight Against Cancer
Today, more than 53 Australians will be told that they have blood cancer and tomorrow - another 53 families will be devastated by the same news.
In 2018 we were one of those families dealt the huge blow of being diagnosed with cancer, which lead to fear and confusion, but after our journey through Chemotheropy & Radiation theropy, I am very greatful to the Doctors, Nurses, my wife and the Leukaemia foundation for the help & support they gave me during my battle which was a very traumatic time.
Every year when I return for my cancer check-up, I am reminded of a moment that changed my life forever.
As I sit in the waiting room, I often see newly diagnosed patients and their families. I see the fear in their eyes, the uncertainty, the tears, and the desperate search for answers. In those moments, I am transported back to my own diagnosis and the overwhelming emotions that came with it.
Cancer doesn't just affect the person diagnosed. It impacts entire families. It brings emotional, physical, and financial challenges that can feel impossible to overcome. I know this because I've lived it.
Remembering that look in peoples eyes, and my own journey is what inspired me to start fundraising.
In February 2027, I will be cycling 1500km over 12 days in the vast & diverse countryside of New Zealand's South Island. Starting at the top, Ships Cove, in Marlborough's beauty Queen Charlotte Sound, finishing in the stunning Milford Sound at the bottom west of the South Island.
My goal is simple: to raise as much money as I can to help families facing the toughest battle of their lives and to support the incredible researchers working tirelessly to find better treatments, improve survival rates, and develop faster, more accurate cancer diagnoses.
Every dollar raised helps provide hope. Hope for families navigating treatment. Hope for patients waiting for a breakthrough. Hope for a future where fewer people hear the words, "You have cancer."
We have all lost someone we love, know someone currently fighting, or may one day face this disease ourselves. Together, we can help ease the burden on families and support the research that brings us closer to a world where cancer no longer steals precious years, cherished memories, and extraordinary people.
I am asking for your support today. Whether it's a donation or sharing this page, every contribution makes a difference
Thank you for standing with me in this fight. Together, we can create hope, change lives, and help ensure that future generations have a better chance at beating cancer.
With gratitude,
Andy Smith
