Leukaemia, it's a word we see and hear but not one we really understand. It's a word associated with other people, people we know of, people we see in hospitals, people we feel sorry for but still it's a word associated with strangers.....until it's not. When leukaemia becomes attached to someone we know, someone we love or someone who's life we value more than our own, leukaemia becomes a completely different word.

Families go from living to surviving, where the hospital becomes a second home, words like bone marrow, transfusions, haemoglobin, platelets, white cell count becomes a new language that overwhelms you and somehow you have to comprehend all this while still trying to get through each and every day. Leukaemia is now not just a word, it has a face and that face is someone you love.

Recently, our community has been facing this seemingly insurmountable challenge, families who as we partake in the Holy month of Ramadan, are living the very real and frightened reality of their child undertaking treatment for leukaemia. 

The community support for families has been incredible and as a community, we would like to continue to do what we can to help improve the care provided to oncology families. 

I’ve taken a stand against blood cancer.

Today, more than 53 Australians will be told that they have blood cancer and tomorrow - another 53 families will be devastated by the same news.

I have created this page to raise vital funds to help provide the special care that is needed to get families through a blood cancer diagnosis as well as to help fund more game-changing research into this disease. 

The money I raise will help provide care for those in need right now — and it will back the brightest researchers to continue uncovering faster diagnoses and better treatments to save lives.
