THE WHY:
Most people have at least one story of how they have been touched by cancer. Unfortunately I am no different. On 1 February 2007 my world caved in when I lost my best mate and dad, Peter Sackville, to Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Fast forward to 10 July 2020: Veronica and I were just settling into life with our 8-month old son, Ray, when Veronica was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma.
Since her diagnosis the only thing more amazing than Veronica's care team has of course been Veronica herself. I've quite simply had a front row seat to the greatest show of strength through vulnerability, through love and through care. The reality, however, is that far more research and development is needed to keep this beast at bay which is why I've chosen to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
THE HOW:
To help raise funds I will be completing an Everesting Challenge in an effort to raise as much money as the elevation I will be climbing: 8,848m. The rules are simple: Ride up and down one hill on a bike continuously until reaching the equivalent elevation of Mt Everest (8,848m). The hill I’ve chosen is Arthur’s Seat on the Mornington Peninsula. I will set off in the early hours of 16 January 2022 and expect it to take somewhere between 12-15hrs.
